Calm Jam

Guide 5 of 5

Posting play-along videos and jam streams with free music

Want to share what you played? Videos and livestreams with these tracks are fine with credit.

What is allowed

You can use the music in videos and livestreams on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and other social platforms, free or monetised, as long as you credit it.

The credit

Put this in the description or a pinned comment: “Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/” Add the track title if you can.

Good audio

Keep the backing track a bit quieter than your instrument. Use headphones for monitoring so the track does not leak into your microphone twice.

Name the track

Say the track name and key in your title, such as “Playing over ‘Track Name’ (A minor)”. People searching for that track will find you.

What to avoid

Do not upload the track, or a recording that contains it, to music streaming services such as Spotify or Apple Music, and no remixes, samples or covers of it there either. Social media and your own streams are fine.

Quick answers

Do I need to credit every video?

Yes, put the credit in the description of each video or stream.

Can I monetise a video that uses the music?
